When Current Events Cause Us to Fear

Do you ever get overwhelmed, confused and discouraged by what's going on around us?  Our world continues to change at warp speed and it's not at all clear who we can believe. It seems as though we are being sifted and those who stand on the authority and finality of...

Meet Durenda

I’ve been happily married to Darryl for almost 28 years.  I’m also a mom to eight, ages 12-26 and nana to four sweet grand babies.  I had visions of what a great mom I would be.  After 26 years of mothering, I have come to the conclusion that I will NEVER be that mom, but guess what?  It really doesn’t matter because it really isn’t about me..it’s about living the story that GOD has written for our family…the one that reveals just how awesome and faithful HE really is!

I love to encourage parents by sharing some of the clarity that comes with age, experience and sometimes learning things the hard way.   It’s less important that we look a certain way and more important that we parent and homeschool with the big picture in mind and that happens most readily when we learn to SLOW DOWN.  Being unhurried in our parenting and homeschooling allows us the time and space to be much more intentional.

More about me >

I wanted you all to know that I just published my first book!  It’s a simple, mercifully short book on homeschooling(about an hour long read). Over a year ago, my husband suggested that I write a book on homeschooling.  I laughed because I really did think it was funny!  Homeschooling for our family has been simple, so I doubted that anyone would want to read about it.  My husband told me that was EXACTLY the reason I should write about it.

Four months, an editor and layout designer later, it was published!  Much to my surprise, after two days on Amazon, it was rated #1 in several categories! The most important thing to me, though, is that parents are being encouraged to relax and enjoy these precious years at home with their kids.  If homeschooling isn’t enjoyable most of the time, it might be a good idea to pause and reflect on why.

Homeschooling In Real Life

Do you ever wonder if your homeschooling days look like anyone else's? Homeschooling is very much like being a pioneer..."a person who is among the first to explore or settle a new country or area."  Because each of our families are unique, it truly looks different...

Homeschooling Moms: When You Doubt You are Enough

I don’t know if there is a week that goes by without that nagging feeling that I just may not be enough for my kids when it comes to home educating.  I’ve homeschooled our eight kids from the beginning (starting over 20 years ago), and we’ve graduated 5 so far, but...

Fearless Homeschooling

Homeschooling is amazing.  We have the opportunity to fine tune our children's education to fit their personality, gifts, strengths and weaknesses.  We can let them follow their interests and provide them with resources that encourage creativity and learning.  It's...

Mommy Martyrdom

Motherhood will bring you to your knees and often face down before the Lord.  In my 26 years of parenting, I have found myself at the end of my own resources countless times. It’s here I’ve learned the most about God’s provision.  "Some of us begin motherhood with...

Simple Ways to Sweeten Your Marriage

After 28 years of marriage, you learn a few thing...things to do and things NOT to do. I am not one for long lists (although they can be helpful). I'm more about simplicity...give me the bottom line and I'll figure the rest out. What I'm sharing with you here are a...
