Meet Durenda

I’ve been happily married to Darryl for almost 28 years.  I’m also a mom to eight, ages 12-26 and nana to four sweet grand babies.  I had visions of what a great mom I would be.  After 26 years of mothering, I have come to the conclusion that I will NEVER be that mom, but guess what?  It really doesn’t matter because it really isn’t about me..it’s about living the story that GOD has written for our family…the one that reveals just how awesome and faithful HE really is!

I love to encourage parents by sharing some of the clarity that comes with age, experience and sometimes learning things the hard way.   It’s less important that we look a certain way and more important that we parent and homeschool with the big picture in mind and that happens most readily when we learn to SLOW DOWN.  Being unhurried in our parenting and homeschooling allows us the time and space to be much more intentional.

More about me >

I wanted you all to know that I just published my first book!  It’s a simple, mercifully short book on homeschooling(about an hour long read). Over a year ago, my husband suggested that I write a book on homeschooling.  I laughed because I really did think it was funny!  Homeschooling for our family has been simple, so I doubted that anyone would want to read about it.  My husband told me that was EXACTLY the reason I should write about it.

Four months, an editor and layout designer later, it was published!  Much to my surprise, after two days on Amazon, it was rated #1 in several categories! The most important thing to me, though, is that parents are being encouraged to relax and enjoy these precious years at home with their kids.  If homeschooling isn’t enjoyable most of the time, it might be a good idea to pause and reflect on why.

Feeling Inadequate

Do you ever have that feeling like everything you do could have been done better? It’s every woman’s battle, especially every mom’s: “I’m not enough. I’ll never be enough.” “I could have done that so much better” “It would have been better if I would have ________.”...

The Urgency of Motherhood (Podcast 25)

So many times we refer to ourselves as "just moms", but God created motherhood and considers it a place of honor.  The word honor means: distinction, recognition, privilege, glory, prestige, merit, importance, notability, respect, esteem, approbation. We need to...

The Comparison Trap

THE COMPARISON TRAP Galatians 6:4,5 "Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct." I LOVE this passage. It...
