His Love is Greater Still

His Love is Greater Still

Have you ever noticed how things that were meant to be blessings (overflow) from God quickly become idols? ANYTHING can and often does become all consuming: food, entertainment, relationships, marriage, children, homeschooling. The list goes on. We were created to...

Meet Durenda

I’ve been happily married to Darryl for almost 28 years.  I’m also a mom to eight, ages 12-26 and nana to four sweet grand babies.  I had visions of what a great mom I would be.  After 26 years of mothering, I have come to the conclusion that I will NEVER be that mom, but guess what?  It really doesn’t matter because it really isn’t about me..it’s about living the story that GOD has written for our family…the one that reveals just how awesome and faithful HE really is!

I love to encourage parents by sharing some of the clarity that comes with age, experience and sometimes learning things the hard way.   It’s less important that we look a certain way and more important that we parent and homeschool with the big picture in mind and that happens most readily when we learn to SLOW DOWN.  Being unhurried in our parenting and homeschooling allows us the time and space to be much more intentional.

More about me >

I wanted you all to know that I just published my first book!  It’s a simple, mercifully short book on homeschooling(about an hour long read). Over a year ago, my husband suggested that I write a book on homeschooling.  I laughed because I really did think it was funny!  Homeschooling for our family has been simple, so I doubted that anyone would want to read about it.  My husband told me that was EXACTLY the reason I should write about it.

Four months, an editor and layout designer later, it was published!  Much to my surprise, after two days on Amazon, it was rated #1 in several categories! The most important thing to me, though, is that parents are being encouraged to relax and enjoy these precious years at home with their kids.  If homeschooling isn’t enjoyable most of the time, it might be a good idea to pause and reflect on why.

Slow and Steady Homeschooling

"Kids are inherently curious and natural learners ..IF we don’t load them down with too much too soon or make learning a drag.  It’s not our job to keep them entertained, but rather to give them time and space to explore their interests and eventually find out what...

Anxiety and Technology (Podcast 9)

Technology has exploded in the last several years. There are no long term studies that have been done because of how quickly it is accelerating, but the short term ones already show that technology is impacting our anxiety levels.  We need to navigate this area of our...

Senseless Hope

We are incredibly grateful for this little guy. He went to be with Jesus four years ago today. Tomorrow marks 4 years since we held him, kissed his sweet little cheeks and took as many pictures as we possibly could to help us remember this little man who touched our...
